{Shape changing dragons}
Long has the world believed that dragons either perished or perhaps never existed at all, having left no visible mark upon the world to the mortal naked eyes. In truth, dragons are still very much alive, hiding among us wishing for nothing more than to live in peace without persecution.
Dragons have a very special secret that keeps them forever connected to our world of mortals…
They are shape shifters…
For many millenniums, dragons have been able to take the forms of human beings at will and live among us; Transforming back and forth to dragons and humans whenever it should suit their needs.
By another twist of fate is the fact that dragons for all long as any of them can remember have always found their destined soul partners, their mates, among humans. In that, continuing on the race of dragons with all the benefits of humanity.
However certain rules have always applied to this noble race. Rules ingrained in their very being since birth.
1. A dragon upon sensing the scent of his/her mate must claim said mate emotionally and physically by the next full moon or the dragon half of this mateship will lose all emotion for the rest of eternity. The pull of souls and adoration for the other will be near impossible for either involved to ignore.
2. Upon mating the human partner, the female of the partnership must be impregnated before the next new moon to make the mating bond secure and permanent. The dragons line continued. Procreation is everything to the dragon species as their race is steadily decreasing in numbers as time passes.
3. Every dragon keeps a horde of treasure. Sparkling, shining and glittering treasures that dragons for centuries have never been able to resist. This horde would be a collection of treasure to make a king weep.
4. A dragon detests members of the opposite sex too close to their mate. Dragons can sometimes be lethal if said member of the opposite sex is not mindful of whom the woman/man belongs to. A male dragon will absolutely forbid anyone of the male gender near his mate when she is with child, NEVER.
5. Upon the dragon mating rituals completion, a dragon can sense his mates whereabouts, feelings and thoughts no matter where the other is located.
6. If a mate of this pairing between dragon and human should perish, the other will perish due to unimaginable grief too horrible to withstand. The bond in which these two of join in very emotionally and spiritually connected, a tie located deep within the soul and heart. To lose ones mate is to lose ones self.
