This is named so with respect to Robert Heinlein's most amusing novel, as opposed to a religious outlook.

There are six components to the geometric universe. Three spatial axis, and three time axis. Through a set of permutations, you can travel potentially through any place in time, and every other universe that ever was. The number of these universes is 6^6^6, or 10,314,424,798,490,535,546,171,949,056.

An infamous scientist, renowned for his groundbreaking work in the field of geometry and physics, has developed a device that is able to move along the axis. It is currently aligned with the axis of worlds made by the collective imaginations of millions of people. The world as myth, as it is referred to, is the design that allows of a host of universes to be created (for not all are yet finished!)

But before the device could be used by the scientist, it was activated on its own, by a measure of technical difficulties (or maybe even fate, who knows?). For know, the scientist has given up on the project...

But! It fell through into an undeveloped universe. Unformed beings were caught within the next transfer, as the device had activated yet again. And they were brought into another fictional universe. And so the cycle continues... But be forewarned. There are those that would use the device for evil.

----------
You are a being, that melds itself to fit the world you go to. If you went to the lion king, you'd be sentient animals. If you went to transformers, you'd be autobots (or maybe even decipticons... if you are truly evil on the inside). As a being that wasn't of a formed idea, you will meld to the world around you with each permutation of the device. You'll be transformed with each world, gaining attributes common to the universe you are within. And each time, you might come a step closer to the place you want to call home. Unless other people steal it as well.

The only axis being traveled is the imaginary universe one. Where it takes you, no one knows. Maybe you'll end up in the first universe. Maybe the machine will break. Maybe someone will find a world to stay in. Who knows? But don't you want to explore the Number of the Beast?
