Champions of L.O.R.E. - OOC
The League of the Other Races of Earth (LORE) Headquartered in San Francisco
Abraxus, the ageless mystic, legendary for the power he commands over the force and energy, and highest authority in ritualistic magic, has been missing for fifteen months. All signs at his home pointed to a kidnapping, but the human government threw that theory aside, calling on the old mage’s advanced abilities to prove that nobody could have taken him.
Since that day, the other races have been living in fear, for the dead are beginning to pile up. Each race save for the humans has suffered horrific losses. Ritual killings, in a style first theorized by the aged mage Abraxus, have plagued these less understood nations. Dozens of killings, with no end in sight.
Fearing that the human government is failing to protect their interests, the governments of the other races have called together a Council of War, and spread word throughout their lands…
Now is the time for Champions.
Chosen by the Council, these Champions will struggle to discover the truth of the murders, and unravel their connection to the missing Abraxus, starting in San Francisco, home to the League of the Other Races of Earth.
Now, Champions… accept the call to duty, and work toward the salvation of the many races of Earth.
Further Information
It’s a night like any other; people come home from work, have dinner and watch TV. Maybe head to the bar to have a few with their friends. Nothing at all odd in that. Or is there? In this RP, we’re giving a heavy nod to the world created by Jim Butcher in the Dresden Files. The setting is the modern day and it has all the same technology that we do. However, Magic, Magical beasts, myths and legends are all true. They live alongside Humans. The thing is that most humans aren't aware of their supernatural neighbors. Those that do know about them, regard them in many ways. Some are fascinated, some have no opinions and others are extremely prejudiced against them. Mages (who are always human) are capable of such destruction, that those individuals are watched and monitored almost excessively.
You can play a human or any mythical beast or creature you can think of. But, be aware, if you don’t blend in, you will have a little trouble with attitudes and might want to stick in your own neighborhoods.
One note: Vampires cannot be older than 150 years and Magic users will be strictly watched plus have the added disadvantage of having ordinary technology go wonky anytime they’re near; cell phones get static, light bulbs burn out, TVs? Not gonna happen. Even your car will hate you on a regular basis. Ask if you have questions about what we will or won’t allow.
Lastly, we will be basing this in the city of San Francisco, the sight of LORE (League of the Other Races of Earth), but it’s not exactly the same as in our world. The basics are the same, but exact streets may be different. This is going to be run by me and M4Minion. We can both answer any questions you have.
Please use the character sheet skeleton below. Remember; magic users are known by their respective government agencies. How well they keep off the radar (i.e. being a good citizen) is up to you.
M4 and I will have the right to ask you to alter your characters slightly if we find them unbalancing.
Rules:
Stick to common sense and the general FOG rules.
If you can't participate or if you'll be absent post something so we know. Regardless, we WILL move on without you and you can hop back in later.
Spellchecker is your friend. Neither of us expect whole chapters of writing suitable for an award. Just give us your best and have a good time.

Re: Champions of L.O.R.E. - OOC
Name: Isokanumaki "Isoke"
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown
Race: Kitsune (Sidhe)
Appearance:
Powers:
Shapeshift - Isoke is able to assume a human guise to help blend in with human society. This form is the only one he can change into and is the exact same every time, though he can control which elements of his natural form are disguised. The more human he looks, the more the power behind his magic is reduced; most of which can be regained by revealing more of his tails.
Foxfire - The staple ability of kitsunes; a magical fire or lightning that can be conjured and controlled at will.
Levitation - Requires three of his seven tails to achieve enough lift to break the Earth's gravitational pull. In his natural form, he is able to move through the air with speed and grace, though only in bursts. This power is not to be confused with flight.
Spacial Displacement - With all of his tails revealed, Isoke can teleport to any location it can see leaving behind a puff of smoke. This ability is especially taxing upon him, especially over longer distances, and he can quickly find himself exhausted after only a handful of consecutive 'jumps'.
Bio: Isoke had been alive for several human centuries and even has a place in Eastern mythology as a trickster and a seducer. There had been several other instances where he has influenced human history so subtly that his presence has never been realized. As portions of humanity began to more willingly embrace magic and the existence of mythical beings, he began making more of an obvious presence amongst them. It did not take him long to stumble across the League of the Other Races of Earth and was more than happy to provide assistance to them. Of course they are especially cautious when dealing with the Sidhe, Isoke included, but they could not deny how useful he could be with his skills and knowledge.
Why was your character chosen as a champion: With the vast number of unknown variables in dealing with this case, there is a distinct possibility that interplanar travel may be required. Isoke is one of the more trusted and knowledgeable Sidhe that L.O.R.E. has on retainer in that regard, so it was only natural they would enlist him.

Re: Champions of L.O.R.E. - OOC
Name: Asdza Doba
Gender: Female
Age: 423 years
Race: Naagloshii (Skinwalker)
Appearance: Asdza was once human in appearance, but years of manipulating her body have changed her. Her skin, though still tan in color, is made of small scales. Her feet have extended in a more canid posture, scales morphing to black fur at the ankle. Her hands are human, with elongated fingers and claws for nails. She has a long, cat like tail covered in long black fur. Large cat-like ears sit atop her head in a midst of black feathers and hair. Her eyes shine in an animal fashion and the scales have darkened to black on her face. Her nose is feline, as is her teeth.
Personality: Asdza is protective and devoted. She views humans as comrades that she must protect. She views other preternaturals with caution and respect, but those who try to harm are Asdza's enemy. This can give her a somewhat skewed view of the world, since sometimes those who harm are themselves trying to protect. Those that she protects now view her as evil, though in ancient times it was not that way. Harmful things pretend to do good, and vice versa. In short, Asdza struggles to understand the concept of good and evil.
Powers: Transformation
Self: Asdza has the power to transform into any animal of her choosing, via pieces of their body that she keeps in a pouch around her neck. She tends to turn into a crow, puma, black wolf and rattle snake. She can change into anything whose skin she holds, but has not yet changed into anything but these four creatures.
Object: Asdza can reshape material objects. She must first prepare the ritual piece of material, be it wood, metal, plastic, etc. After it is prepared, it has the power to manipulate an object made of that same material; once it is used, it cannot be reused until she prepares it again. Preparation involves invoking the ancient spirits to give their blessing upon the piece, and demands solitude and concentration in order to successfully work.
Other: This is the most difficult of the three transformation stages. The ease of transforming an other depends upon their sentience and awareness to magic. Therefore, an animal is easier to transform than a human, and a human is easier to transform than a magical being. The Other being transformed must be within Asdza's reach and must be unconscious. Asdza invokes the same spirits used in object ritual to give permission to transfer her transforming skill to the other. The Other will be transformed into whatever animal skin Azdza chooses for them. She cannot be in animal form when she does this, nor can she use an animal form while this other is transformed. In order to gain her power back, this Other must be transformed back into its original body. This practice is frowned upon and monitored closely.
Bio: Asdza has always been an ally to her people. In her younger years, she fought against the white settlers, and though eventually her land was lost, her powers helped defend and preserve her people and their culture. It was with the onset of the European that the League of the Other Races of Earth found her and demanded her participation. The only other option would be to go into hiding, so she became a part of LORE and followed their laws and regulations. While she entered grudgingly, she knew it was only a matter of time before she was hunted and killed by the settlers, so LORE was her only hope for survival. For this, she is a devoted member, and serves her people by keeping them safe from the darker preternatural forces. Time heals all things, and she holds no grudge to the now American population. They are a part of her land, and therefore her people.
Why was your character chosen as a champion: Her devotion makes her a dependable character, and her rarity may prove to be important in the future.

Re: Champions of L.O.R.E. - OOC
I'm definitely interested, but I would like to know how closely you're sticking to the Dresden Files. It's just because he describes the race I'm thinking of (the Fae) fairly differently than I typically envision it, so I wanted to double check if we needed to stick to the Dresden-verse or if we could have some creative liberties.

The Dresden Files-verse is just the influence for this RP. Not canon. So, if you have an idea, by all means run it by us.

Re: Champions of L.O.R.E. - OOC
Name: Agamemnon (Ag, for short)
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Race: Half White Dragon
Appearance:
He gets along well with Dwarves, due to his history with them, and has almost instant respect from races that value physical might. He is weary of human society, knowing that he could never belong there no matter how much he might wish it. He views most other people with healthy caution, until he discovers their opinions of him.
Powers: Being the son of a White Dragon, Agamemnon possesses powers similar to his father, though vastly diluted by his human bloodline. Not immune to the icy cold of the mountain top or the Arctic, Ag, none the less, can withstand the cold far better than most creatures. His wings are strong enough to allow him to fly under his own power, but not over long distances. His strength is that of five men, and his speed is unmatched by all but the most nimble mortals. The most explosive showing of his power is his Icy Breath. This is hard to control, and weakens him to the point that using it too often without rest could kill him.
Bio: Agamemnon was cast out at birth by the Dragons, half breeds being forbidden by Dragon law. Thrown into the cold to survive on his own, he was taken in by a band of nomadic dwarves. Growing up, still an outcast, but accepted as much as possible, Ag learned to fight in the Dwarven style, his preferred weapon being a battle axe.
He learned a great deal about Dragon culture from the dwarves of the mountains, and strives to one day be accepted by them, pledging to fight and succeed in ways they could not, until they overlook their own law, and bring him into their society.
Why was your character chosen as a champion: Dragon law forbids the oldest race to get directly involved in the affairs of the younger ones. As such, the Dragon’s place in LORE is largely ceremonial, with very little direct guidance. However, Dragon’s have died during the last months, and the race no longer has a choice. They must act. The decision was made to bring back one of the few known surviving Half Dragon outcasts, as they, not technically being a Dragon, under Dragon law, can directly take part in the investigation.

Re: Champions of L.O.R.E. - OOC
Muse, M4, what do you guys think of the character I used for the old verion of this, in other words my demon, Bal?
Of course I would have to change the 'Knights' thing a bit, but I would like to use the same character, if that is alright.

We love Bal. But, in this simplified version, we're going to forgoe celestial beings. So no Angels or Demons this time around.

Re: Champions of L.O.R.E. - OOC
Name: Prudence (Pru) Malone
Gender: Female
Age: 125 (appears 22)
Race: Ghost
Appearance:
Powers: Insubstantiality – she can turn incorporeal and pass through any non-living material that is not magical shielded.
Levitation and flight. – Pru can move as fast as 20 miles an hour and has not found her height limit.
Becoming Corporeal – Pru can become solid so she might interact with the world of the living. This takes a great deal of effort and she often conserves energy by only showing herself from the hips up,
Merge with machine – Pru can ‘possess’ machines and is particularly fond of playing pranks on people with computers. She has learned a great deal about computers and has become a gifted hacker.
Bio: Prudence Anne Malone was born in 1885 in the rough and tumble wharf area of San Francisco to a prostitute. Her life was hard and short. Both she and her mother were killed during the Great Quake of 1906. Unlike so many others whose souls moved on, Pru simply wasn’t ready to let go. Needing something to latch onto, she poured her consciousness into her mother’s cheap costume necklace. As the necklace passed from owner to owner, was lost and found again, Pru’s soul went with it. At first she could do nothing but watch the living. But over the years, she became stronger. She played as most poltergeists will, opening doors, turning on lights or even throwing items across the room. As years passed, she could manifest in mirrors (still a favorite trick), shape her shadow, and eventually materialize fully.
As the industrial era lead to the advent of flight and electricity and the internet, Pru took to it all with fascinated curiosity. She learned to insert herself into machines and to control them once she understood how they worked.
Weakness Pru is bound to her mother’s necklace. She cannot move out of the immediate vicinity of it. It has been magically bound to her, but when she is insubstantial, it can be taken by anyone and she would be forced to go where it goes. Should the necklace be destroyed, Pru would be banished.
Why was your character chosen as a champion: Due to Pru’s abilities, she had been used many times in clandestine cases for the local Preternatural Task Force. In the case of the ritualistic murders, she has been called upon by L.O.R.E. to accompany the Champions as a consolation to the local authorities. She has been instructed not to report to them, however.

Re: Champions of L.O.R.E. - OOC
I'm thinking of creating a vampire character, besides the 150 year old age limit what else should I know about how you want such a character played?

Welcome Lyonesse! The Vampires in this world are the classic creatures from myth. They are particularly well connected politically and as a rule only feed on willing donors. Hunting and turning others is strictly taboo.

So the basics essentially? Can't stand sunlight or religious objects, strong, fast, etc.

Re: Champions of L.O.R.E. - OOC
Name: John Asher, only close friends call him John though, so it’s Asher to you.
Gender: Male
Age: 112 (appears 31)
Race: Vampire
Appearance:
Personality: These days, Asher is pretty much a misanthrope. He doesn’t really give a damn about anyone or anything and pretty much hates the world for existing. He’s sarcastic and cranky as hell, but beneath his rather deplorable personality, Asher is observant, intelligent and more stubborn than a mule. In fact, he would probably be suicidal if he weren’t too damn obstinate to give others the satisfaction.
Powers: Asher is immortal, much stronger and faster than ordinary humans, he has enhanced senses, only needs only blood to survive, and he heals quickly.
Weaknesses: Sunlight, fire, stakes through the heart, holy objects wielded by someone of faith.
Bio: Born in 1898, Asher’s youth wasn’t particularly interesting. He was born and raised in Chicago and eventually followed in his father’s footsteps becoming a police officer. However, his ambitions and a sharp mind took Asher further with a job in the recently formed Prohibition Unit of the Bureau of Internal Revenue, charged with enforcing the 18th Amendment. Asher had no real love for Prohibition though and did have a love for alcohol, so he happily used his position to target certain locations and people, while tipping off others in return for cash and booze. That went on for about two years until Asher was ratted out by one of the speakeasy operators he’d been working with. Asher lost his job and barely escaped a prison sentence by running to New York, where he tried working as a private detective, but on one of his very first cases he started to fall for the wiles of Grace, a mysterious woman, linked to his case. He stumbled across the secret she’d been hiding: that she was a vampire. She turned him and for a while the two were lovers, traveling to Europe when the Great Depression took hold, then back to the U.S. when World War II started. He did a lot of investigative work for the vampire government, as well as a little for L.O.R.E as well during his first three or four decades as a vampire, but during the 1960s something happened that he still refuses to speak about while on a case for a friend. It completely changed Asher’s attitude and outlook on life and everything else, causing him to begin to lose interest in things, falling into fits of depression and nihilism that seemed to get longer and deeper every time.
Why was your character chosen as a champion: Despite his reclusive tendencies and I-don’t-give-a-damn attitude, Asher is still a top-notch detective, which is exactly what L.O.R.E needs to figure out all of these mysteries, so he was roped into the job by his sire and old flame, Grace.

Re: Champions of L.O.R.E. - OOC
Name: Ikeisselgehoran, Spirit of Constantinople (a.k.a. Ike)
Gender: Male
Age: 536
Race: Dwindling Fire Spirit/Elemental
Appearance:
Personality: Because of his imprisonment and enslavement by the underground shamans of Constantinople, he hates humans. His hate for them is what is anchoring him to this earth. He is, however, in light of recent events, starting to cool down. He is reconsidering, slightly, his view on the human population. He is slowly making the transition from introverted hate harmful fire, to a wise, kind and gentle subsistence fire.
Powers: Uses parts of his body and extends as whip/sword/weapon. That’s it. His power, since he is slowly but surely losing his imprint on this world’s reality, is starting to dwindle.
Ike was able, through his years of wandering aimlesly, lighting up everything on fire, how to qualm the flames of his body. The result left him with a corproreal body, that he was able to morph into one being, and only one. The man who made him suffer soo much. The High Shaman that summoned Ike in Constantinople in the first place.
(Look in appearance)
Bio: In the era of the Byzantine Empire, there was a small sect of shamans who resisted Christianity. To overthrow the Emperor and instate their pagan religion, they summoned a spirit from the plane of fire. They called him Ikeisselgehoran, Spirit of Constantinople. Once summoned, however, the Spirit was too weak to use its strength; it had not found an anchor. The only way to keep such an ethereal being to earth was to give it a personal meaning. So they did.
They treated it with such miscontempt and intentional hatred (they posed as the orthodox scholars), that a once kind fire of warmth began to burn as a destructive blaze. However, over the hundred years that it took to properly anchor the Ike, too few shamans were left and their limited numbers (there was only 1 left) made the entire plan a doomed one. Once the spirit was ready to begin its rampage, it found only that the city had been conquered by Islamists, not those he was taught to hate. Since that fateful day, Ike has been wandering the world, searching for a purpose. Finally he found one; with L.O.R.E.
L.O.R.E has wanted to take away the evil anchor that Ike has had on earth for many years. All of their plans failed, yet increased in urgency. They had to constantly find things to do for Ike or else he would accidentally start forest fires in the dry Californian climate. Finally, with the recent kidnappings, the perfect way to get rid of Ike had presented itself.
Why was your character chosen as a champion: Ikeisselgehoran was summoned by L.O.R.E because of his strength (while it lasts) and his wisdom (while it increases). It is also a good way to keep him busy for the remainder of his earthly existence. That is the official reason. The real reason is that L.O.R.E knows that Ike is an unnatural creation and must be erased peacefully.[b]

Re: Champions of L.O.R.E. - OOC
I'm sorry to say that I might have to bow out of this RP. It's come at a time where I am having trouble keeping up with the ones I am currently involved in. Amongst vacation, job hunting, and other daily tasks, I am having trouble finding time where I am motivated enough to RP.
I hope I haven't offended any of you with this and I wish that you all have fun with Muse's story.

That's too bad, Loki, but we understand that RL must come first and you don't want to stretch yourself too thin. Good luck.

I don't think there needs to be a posting order necessarily. But I am doing one more to introduce Pru a bit more and then you all can begin showing up at LORE headquarters.

I don't know that it will matter, but I'll be gone until Sunday evening driving across the state to a friend's bachelorette party. I'll be both away from a computer and way too inebriated to post.
