Loki's tornado experience...
A massive storm front came through northwest Ohio last night around 10:30pm, producing several tornadoes and killing 5 people (one of which was a young girl). Turns out that a few touched down less than three miles from my home. The high school and police department/municipal building in the neighboring district were both destroyed by the twisters. This morning we found out that one went past a friend's backyard, causing minor damages to their house (thankfully they were unharmed). So my brother, several friends, and I went to help them fix up their house and clean up their yard.
Here are some pictures of the damage that we seen on our way to help.
This concrete pad is the only thing left of a barn that was originally there. The only thing left is the car that was inside of it at the time (seen at the edge).
A small tree straight into the gas tank. This is my friend's neighbor's car. Their house was totaled (as seen in the fourth and fifth pictures.) The family is fine since they were in the basement at the time, though somehow their freezer that had been in the basement was found in the front yard once the storm had passed.
That is indeed a bike lodged into the wall of my friend's house...
We were talking to another one of the neighbors while cleaning the yard, and he had been very lucky. His house was virtually untouched despite that the house next to his was hit hard. An older couple lived there, but sustained injuries when the twister hit. The woman was actually pulled from the home, was thrown 150 feet from the house, and was lucky enough to land in her pond where she managed to use a door as a raft until the neighbor pulled her to safety. Even though she suffered several broken bones and a ruptured spleen, she was fortunate enough to live despite being taken by the twister.
Despite living 6 years in Oklahoma, this is the closest I've ever come to a twister and the first time I had seen the damage done first hand.

Wow. Amazing what air can do.
I feel bad for all the damages and everybody who was injured or who died.
It really demolished the school and municipal building?
And that bike...

I was always partial to thunderstorms and other displays of the raw power of nature. Nature is still the most untapped resource out there. Just imagine how much wind energy could be obtained if we could harness the destructive power of those twisters. Anyway its a shame that so much destruction happened but hopefully insurance covers most of the damages and I hope that people get back on their feet soon. Your lucky Loki. 3 miles is closer to a twister than I would like to be in my lifetime.
