Hello, everyone, I'm username Obfuscobble, actual name Ya.
I was delighted to find these forums and take a look at the standards and examples of great writing here on FOG. I have read all of the sticky threads and the full rules for the forums. I'll probably start up an interest thread later today or tomorrow for an RP idea I have, but if the general consensus is for "join an existing RP first" or "lurk more", that's fine. I'll probably be popping into Caligo soon anyways (laughs.) I'm really looking forward to sharing quality writing with the great players here ; I only hope that I can keep up my end of the bargain.
As long as a good story and solid worldbuilding are involved, I'm up for just about any setting! I enjoy sci-fi, fantasy, and various book RPs, and even anime. I don't watch much TV other than science or nature programmes, so I'll probably be no help in those RPs.
I look forward to meeting the great players of FOG!
(Silly side question : what's the general consensus for paragraph indenting? I usually use five spaces, but is there a better or preferred way on FOG?)

Welcome to FoG, Obfuscobble. Mind if I just call you Cobble or Obfus? The the entire thing is hard for me to mentally pronounce. Sweat Drop

As for indenting, I don't think you are able to on these forums. Suspect

From my experiences, additional spaces compress to one or two and all my indenting using the tab key in Office just gets overlooked when posting. Instead, we mainly stick to adding a blank line between paragraphs to make it easier to decipher between them.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to FOG! You're definitely in the right place for high-quality writing by a bunch of really cool people. With your broad variety of interests and apparently very good writing fluency based on your first post, I'm sure you'll fit in just fine. If you already know of an RP you want to start/join, then by all means dive right in. If you're looking into Caligo, I'll probably look into joining an RP there once I'm done with final exams. I've been dying to try out my character ^_^.

To answer your question, I don't think you can indent, like Loki said. However, the general consensus I've noticed is just to add an extra space between paragraphs. I hope you enjoy your stay, and please don't hesitate to ask anymore questions! The moderators and your fellow FOG-gers are all here to help!

Greetings, obfuscobble! Here’s some advice so that you don’t get lost in there. (I prefer space between paragraphs myself.)

Thank you all for the help in the indenting problem. That's just the way of forums, I guess.

@ Loki
As for my unweildy name, I've been called "Scobble" in the past, so "Cobble" is fine! Obfuscobble comes from a sign that was hung by one of my favourite professors over his office door, reading "Eschew Obfuscation" Since eschew sounds like a-shoe, I figured one who a-shoe'd obfuscation would be an obfuscation cobbler, thus obfuscobble.

@SilvanArrow
Good luck on finals! End of term is hard on everyone. And if the time becomes right, I crtainly do look forward to playing with you. In the meantime, looks like it's time for me to write up a prelim for "Tah"...

I wish we did have an indentation method. That would be so great.... *stares off wistfully*

Obfuscobble... that's an awesome username! xD Is it pronounced Ob-fyew-SKOB-ble? And your real name is Ya? That's even cooler!!
Welcome to the FOG, obfuscobble. cheers

Since you seem to be interested in well-developed world-building and deep settings -- and since I don't mind plugging shamelessly ^^ -- I'd be honored for you to have a look at Sephiris: The Price of Peace in the Advanced section. The pace is slow, but that's only because of all the detail. ^^ With a daystamp system and an open world, I've left lots of room for new characters to insert themselves into the story. Very Happy There are even languages to develop, for anyone who wants to. ^^

Well, that's enough advertisement for now. Razz
Enjoy the FOG! cheers

@ Kalon Ordona II
That's a perfectly cool way to say it! (laughs) I usually think it as OB-fuss-COB-ble, but your way is far more elegant. I might have to change my way now! And thanks for thinking my name(s) are cool. My last name just doesn't cut the mustard: Phillips.

As for your plug, I have starry eyed news:
1. I am liking the looks of this! Right up my alley, so you might be getting a new character soon after I read through the story thus far. Heee, it's exciting like a novel.
2. I am a hobbyist linguist. It is my passion. I have three whole constructed language families under my belt, and... yeah. If you ever need to discuss anything linguistic, I'm all ears.

Welcome to FOG, obfuscobble!

It looks like you're already making friends and finding your place here in the swirling mists; I'm glad to see you're so excited about this place.

I won't repeat anything that's already been said, but might I suggest checking out the Chat? Its a great place to talk to your fellow foggers in real time; and though it can be dead sometimes, at others it's quite busy and crazy fun.

Anywho, I hope you enjoy your stay here, and hopefully I'll get a chance to RP with you sometime!

Welcome to FoG! It seems as if you have gotten the hang of things around here so I don't have to much advice to give. Guess I will keep things short then and say 'I hope to see you around!'
