Mythological Mafia
So... newbie here, trying to get into the roleplay business. Be gentle. /that's what she said.
Idea of Ideaness:
So, being a lover of both romance and actiony things, I thought I'd dwell into a topic that utilized both. My basic concept is that of a sort of mafia type thing. You know the whole hitman, drug dealing, we're all family even though we're not related, type of thing. However, I'd like to put a little spin on it. The mafia consists of mythological creatures, you know like vampires, werewolves, etc. Each mafia group consists of different races (the main races being vampires and werewolves because I like them) and they don't get along (as you might have guessed).
They have their own little underground crime things going around while engaging in bloody fights in alleyways and the like.
I know the idea probably needs some tweaking, but that's what an rp partner is for!
As for what I and my fellow rper will be doing... I was thinking one would be a vampire, the other a werewolf and they'd do that whole cliche' we shouldn't be in love with each other but we are anyway type thing. (It sounds so much better in my head, really.)
I'll leave the choice of being a vamp or a wolf up to my partner, along with the gender. I'm okay with playing a male or female character.
Please post if you're interested.

Re: Mythological Mafia
Hey, I'm definitely interested in playing a roleplay of this genre and have quite a few ideas of my own to bring to the table if you would like. I'm interested in playing as a werewolf of either gender, its not that big a deal to me.
I'm also new, so I'm sure I'll be about as gentle as need be. What exactly did you have in mind for characters?

Re: Mythological Mafia
Awesome. I'm glad to hear that.
And I'm glad you picked the werewolf, I haven't played one in ages, and I just love vampires. As for the gender, considering you're a guy, I would think you'd be more comfortable playing a guy, but I don't know. It's bad of me to assume things. lol.
For the characters themselves, they can have any position in the mafia (preferably in mid or high rank). I don't think a romance between low ranked characters would cause enough drama. They can be drug dealers, assassins, even the leader (alpha for the wolves), etc. Whatever you can come up with that fits in basically.
As for werewolves themselves, they can pretty much control their beast-like counterpart. The only time they'd have any difficulty would probably be during a full moon, when their power is at its greatest and so on. They can live much longer than humans, but not as long as vampires. Physically, their power matches that of any vampire although intelligence and speed sometimes vary.
Vampires do the whole blood sucking thing and while they can walk in the day light (yes, I like my daywalkers) its only after they reach a certain age. Fresh (young) vampires usually can't tolerate the sun and must slowly grow accustomed to it over a large period of time. Those that are daywalkers tend to be at least 500 years old.
So...what ideas do you have? I'd love to hear them.

Re: Mythological Mafia
I would prefer to play as a male character, however it depends entirely on what you want to play. As I said, I'm happy enough to play just about anything, although I would prefer a werewolf.
As for ideas about the role-play... How about this?
Rather than your original idea of two mafia's, one for vampires and one for werewolves, why don't you have the vampires as the mafia and the wolves as more of a 'pack'. The stereotypical werewolf is not generally sophisticated or well groomed enough to make a respectable mafia... The werewolf pack would be more like a powerful gang which has conflicting interests with the vampire mafia. Setting wise, I'm thinking we run it in a large unidentified city, with werewolves living in typically lower class areas while vampires live in high class areas.
My character would be, I'm thinking, the son of the alpha wolf in the pack. This way I hold some influence within the werewolf group, but am not the leader. You could play your character as a capo, hit man or even an advisor to the boss?
If you play as a hitman, then the storyline could progress that you are assigned to kill my character in order to weaken the pack. If you play as a capo, then you and your soldiers could be a group which is responsible for killing werewolves in general, which leads into a conflict with me and a gropu of werewolves under my command.
You say you wish to play the vampires as classical blood drinking vampires with older ones being able to walk in the sun? I'm assuming they will also possess super strength and speed as well as night vision? Anything I'm forgetting?
For werewolves, I intend to play them as being shapeshifters with an ability to control the shape shifting. Full moons will have some effect, but older werewolves can resist the influence of the moon and not shift at full moons. Werewolves will of course have longer lifespans than humans, but they will not be immortal like the vampires are. I'm thinking they will age at a rate of 1 year to every 5 human years, meaning very old wolves will reach ages of 500 or more. Wolves will possess super speed and strength in both human and wolf forms, as well as having an natural telepathy between pack members. Naturally a transformed werewolf will be stronger and faster than a human form werewolf, but they are still relatively powerful as humans. A transformed werewolf will lose some of their reasoning abilities, but will still be able to think clearly to an extent.
Hows that sound to you?

Re: Mythological Mafia
It sounds excellent. You basically regurgitated what I said though about werewolves and the like, although with some minor differences (that I like!).
And yes, vampires do have super strength, speed, and so on.
I'm liking the idea of playing a vampire hitman or rather hitwoman.
And I was thinking a city similar to that of New York city if you're familiar with it.
I think we're about ready to go. Unless... I'm forgetting something.

Re: Mythological Mafia
Basically ready to go... Unless you were particularly keen on writing out some character sheets before we get started?
I'm Australian, so my knowledge of New York City is somewhat limited but I feel I know enough about American cities in general to get by. I've definitely read enough stories set in New York to be able to write about it.
Feel free to start up the In Character thread, and I'll post once you're done?

Re: Mythological Mafia
Psh, I'm not particular about character sheets in the slightest.
Oh, an Aussie, that's so cool. I'm from America. Yeah, I know, lame.
I'll set up an IC thread momentarily.
