Hello:
Hello,
Do not be deterred by my oh-so-original-greeting, though upon reading this in the future I myself may shy away.
Name? To you it is two syllables, 'Violet.'
After scouring bookshops now for too long, and devouring book after book. I have delved into the imaginations of authors from almost every century (and been suitably repulsed by what my peers deem as readable today).
I guess you could say I'm restless to find and even create my own stories. After many a misadventure where I was restricted to rping with people who insisted than three words was an adequate response to four paragraphs, I came across this site.
I am a capable learner with the love of the way of words.
Let's see... I love art - I mean, it runs in my veins and fills my head even when I'm asleep. Very distracting during a trialling maths class, might I add. For instance, there is a canvas with paints and brushes and all that in the middle of my room as I type. I like de Goya the best - I'm a Romantic wanna-be... (yes this includes Bronte and Austen)
And Tim Burton, though many disagree, is perhaps the best director of this century. I love all his work - though Sweeney Todd is a clear 1st. I am an avid collector of even his odd works (like 'Vincent').
I'm a student, and I want to be a... novelist, artist, interior designer, lawyer, architect, journalist, critique, doctor, curator....
People think I'm odd... I think I'm reasonable. People think I walk around with a distracted look on my face... I think I have an attentive air at all times.
...Well, it's up for you to decide.

Re: Hello:
One of those arteests that the rest of the world cannot understand.
Welcome to the FOG, Vyelit (training myself to pronounce Violet with two syllables instead of three or kinda two and a half ^^).
I think we're going to love having you here!
Have fun looking around, and if there are any questions, please feel free to ask!

Re: Hello:
Well, the word - that is, the color or the flower - violet is three syllables. I'm told it can be pronounced differently when used as a name. Never heard of it or seen it before, myself, but I suppose anything's possible when it comes to names.
Anyway...
Welcome, welcome, Violet, to Footsteps of Ghosts. It's always nice to see a fresh face full of talent and brimming with ideas and energy to contribute to our lovely little community. You seem like the type who has many dreams and aspirations, and those are often the ones who come up with some excellent roleplay concepts. So, dive right in and have some fun!
Also, feel free to drop into the IRC chat by following the link at the top of the page. It gets lively sometimes, and gets dead at others, but it's a great way to meet some of the more active members of the community.
See you around!

Re: Hello:
You see, this is why it's so funny - when I was writing my post, I had to sit and muse over the pronunciations of 'Violet' for a few minutes.
I came up with "Vy-let" and "Vi-Oh-let" and the actual pronunciation, which has that odd two and a half count.
I'm excited about getting started - and even happier that this place is so positive about it!

Re: Hello:
Welcome to the site, so your a new role-player that means your going to have a lot of fun here. You missed out on the golden days when role-play was done in chat-rooms (MSN,Yahoo, AOL and many more messengers/chat-room sites). I have been role-playing for about seven years now, I'm decent and will continuously search for a variety or writing styles and role-plays. Your more then welcome to ask me for advise or come to me about discussions I will answer them the best way I can wile being blunt.
I enjoy people and especially new writers, you will also see me come and go with out a notice. There is a reason for that, I'm planning a trip to South Korea and will be gone for about a month so there is a lot of planning I'm taking. I am a Cyberpunk " High tech and low life" basically meaning I'm interested in browsing the internet but dislikes the idea of being materialistic ( as it corrupts a human being making them greedy).
I look forward for the future role-plays we will have together.

Re: Hello:
Personally, I think everyone is odd to some degree, but that's what makes life so much more fun. If someone says I'm weird, my response is, "Well, where's the fun in being normal?"
But I digress...
It's great to have you join our humble community, Violet! With your diverse love of the arts, it sounds like you'll fit in beautifully. Allow me to second Sunwolf's suggestion about checking the art forums. I'm sure you'll enjoy them. Hope you enjoy your stay, and don't hesitate to ask if you need anything! We always have people chomping at the bit to answer questions.
And now I'm going to go back to pondering the correct pronunciation for "violet."

You are definitely not alone. I hope you rock the Mrs. Lovett this Halloween! I think I'm going to manipulate an old dress and try and get that "Almost Alice" look going on ^_^

Re: Hello:
About that question 'chomping' - I was wondering how you guys would suggest I get started.
Should I introduce a character into a mature role play? Or maybe wait for a new one to start off, or even make my own from the word go? I don't really know, and I can trust all of you have a better idea than me. Pretty please, help?!
BTW: Ryona - I was also thinking to do the 'Winona Ryder' dress like Beetlejuice too sometime.

Re: Hello:
It's entirely up to you how you get started, Violet. If you want to jump into a mature roleplay, simply ask the creator/GM of the roleplay if they're accepting anymore characters. If you want to hop into a current interest check, you're free to post your interest and try to get in on that. Or, as you said, you could create your own right off the bat. If you think you have a good idea for a roleplay, post up an interest check and see if others want in. If you need help expanding an idea, find the forum that you think would best house your idea and see if anyone else wants to help you fill out the details in an interest check.
The fact is, it's completely up to you how you get started. It all depends on how comfortable you are with each of your options.

Re: Hello:
Welcome to FoG, Violet.
Violet is actually pronounced with three syllables. Kalon's idea of a half syllable is just a soft "uh" or "uh" sound. Vai-uh-luht (("ai" as in "aisle")) or 'vī-ə-lət to be more precise. However, if it's actually your name, the only correct way is the way you pronounce it. That's just how names are, but through reading your responses, it seems it's simply an alias.
If you really love reading that much, may I suggest you join a personal challenge? I started a 50 Book Challenge in the gaming thread. All you have to do is post your list, and I'll add you to the first post. It enables you to keep track of all of the books you read in one simple thread. Because it's a personal challenge, there's no reason to feel the need to "compete" with others about who can get there fastest. It's just a way to get people reading, and for those who already read, it's a way to see that accomplishment all in one spot. ^^_^^
I hope you enjoy your stay. ^^_^^

Re: Hello:
Someone my age who also adores Tim Burton... wonderful!
Welcome to FoG, Violet! Sweeney Todd is definitely one of my top three favourite movies. I've lost track of how many times I've seen it. I'm a little disappointed that I've yet to see Alice in Wonderland but I simply haven't had the time or money to spare lately. I'm determined to see it before it leaves the cinemas though!
So, I hope you enjoy your time with us and settle in nicely. I look forward to seeing you around!
