Alrighty folks, here's the deal; Agenda Labs is hosting a fun little trivia contest in the IRC shortly. This trivia contest will not include common sense trivia such as "Who was the first president of the United States?". That stuff is too easy, especially for your "advanced roleplayers", so to turn up the heat, we'll be asking some deeper, more complex questions.

Trivia Competition Specifics

How is this going to work? Members who log into the IRC on Sunday (around 1:00pm, Central Standard Time [or GMT -6]) will have the opportunity to compete against other FOG members in a live trivia competition of about 40 questions. Each question that has been picked will challenge the minds of the contestants, and are from a number of various categories, such as science and mathematics, history and current events, philosophy and religion, and - of course - FOG trivia.

Now what's with the Netflix logo up there? Well, the winner of the competition (determined by the amount of points accumulated) will receive a free, one-month, premium Netflix membership. Details of the membership include two DVDs out to your address at any one time, and instant streaming to your PC, Mac, or TV (TV streaming requires an adapter they sell). The receiving of the membership does require a credit card upon redemption of the gift certificate via e-mail, however, your card will not be charged if you cancel the membership before your one free month is up, otherwise Netflix will charge the card the normal fee, assuming you wish to keep the membership (that's the catch there).

The runner-up will receive a $5 gift deposit to a PayPal account (courtesy of AL), as well as bragging rights.

Anybody may participate in the contest. The details of the contest are as follow:

1. Users must be logged into the IRC before the contest starts at approximately 1:00pm, CST. Late comers are welcome to observe, but must refrain from sending messages in the competition's IRC channel (a separate room will be created for the competition, so members are free to use FOG's main channel at all times).

2. Each participant will pick a different color, so they may be easily recognized by AL staff.

3. Competition hosts will act on behalf of Agenda Labs; not Footsteps of Ghosts. If you want to blame a judge or host for your "not winning" predicament, please feel free to bitch at Agenda Labs. We won't listen anyway, but we do care... to an extent.

4. This is a closed AL project; meaning only FOG members are allowed to participate in the competition as competitors. You may invite non-members of FOG to observe the round if they have an IRC client separate from FOG's iframe widget on the website (website access to the channel has been secured to prevent non-member intrusions). Non-member observers are expected to abide the rules of the competition as much as FOG members are expected to.

5. When a trivia question is presented, the contestants must answer as quickly as possible. l33t speak (or SMS) is not allowed. Hosts and judges must be able to comprehend your answer, so don't be a d-bag. Also keep in mind that IRC chatting involves the risk of lagging (a delay in the intermittent relay of your message over the internet). AL is not responsible for lagged answers. The entire competition will be recorded live using Debut Screen Recording software, provided by NCH, and at our studios. Whatever correct answer the video picks up first, will be counted. Because of this; the competition winner and runner-up will be announced until a day or two AFTER the competition has been concluded.

6. Contestants will receive a quick briefing of the rules in the IRC before the start of the competition, as well as a three-question practice round. Following the briefing of the rules, before the practice round, no more competitors will be allowed to enter.

For the record, both the winner and runner-up will receive graphic "badges" to proudly display in addition to their contest prizes. No, you can't see the badges yet.... they're not done being thought of.

I would like to inform everyone that the Trivia contest will begin in 59 minutes in the IRC. Click on Chat Room in the nav bar up top to load the chat widget if you are not familiar with our chat room yet. Pick a name we all recognize to login and connect.

I'm not around at the moment even though it shows me in the room. I'm off getting some lunch before we begin.

When you're in there, feel free to hang out and chat (I believe that's why we have the room in the first place.... duuuuuh). When return I'll create the separate room for the contest and everyone will pick a color they want to use for their answers.

I'll give a briefing of the key rules and start a practice round, then we'll move onto the actual contest.

Remember, if you are not in the room by 1:00pm CST when this shindig goes off, you cannot participate.

Due to the fact that only two showed (and couldn't participate anyway), I'm calling the event off and declaring that it be postponed until enough interest is expressed. The contest may be hosted again in the near future, but probably not in the IRC. If you have any suggestions for how the contest should be conducted, then PM me with your idea or post here.

Part of the problem with this is the particular time that you have to be there to participate. My schedule, beyond what is already set in stone, varies widely. My free time has to be divided up between my family, my homework, my own writing and other projects, chores that have to be done, etc. Therefore, it is almost impossible for me to set aside time on any one day to participate in something like this. It just won't happen. Therefore, I will likely never be able to participate in anything that takes place in the IRC at a particular time.
