Hey!
Hello everyone. My name is Skye.
I've been looking everywhere for a forum. I've been wanting to establish relationships with role-players that aren't juvenile. I have been disappointed time and time again, but I think I will learn to like this place -- it just seems cozy. There isn't any pretension that I can see, and hopefully no one is as condescending as some of the adolescents I've talked to on other boards.
Anyway, I'm in college. My major is stuck, I'd say. I want to major in Art/Literature, but currently I am in the Humanities. I love reading -- although I don't do it enough -- and I particularly love the authors Yann Martel, Vladimir Nabokov, Clive Barker, Friedrich Nietzsche, J. R. R. Tolkien, Albert Camus, and Voltaire. I really enjoy seeing realistic situations and realistic people reflected in writing (disregarding satire, of course) -- even if it's the simplest style.
I have been role playing for six years. I've always loved fantasy. I do like using original plots, however I like the fantasy setting to be absolutely limitless. I enjoy unrealistic things to happen in a separate (or somewhat parallel) dimension in a realistic way. It challenges creativity.
Other than fantasy, I play some modern or post-apocalyptic genres. It really depends on what's included, though... I don't like to be limited.
I also love to make art. I draw concepts and I paint. I love sketching the female body. I wish I could practice Gimp or Photoshop, since they're such beautiful programs, but I lack the time to do so. Ahh, maybe one day!
My mind is so tired! I hope I'll be able to find a role-play (or a role-play partner) who can inspire me. I think my mentality has deteriorated from too much adolescent nonsense. ):

Re: Hey!
Hey Skye.
I think you've found the perfect place, most definitely. FoG is a safe haven for people like yourself. We still have fun, but we know when playtime is over.
Give it a chance and I'm sure you'll grow to love this community. Your maturity isn't defined by the number next to the Age category on your profile. Which is a relief. I've never felt uncomfortable about showing my age here, you won't find any prejudice.
I'd love to see your art sometime and I wish you the best of luck here. There's a chance we'll end up crossing paths in the future. All of the genres you mentioned are my favourites as well.

Re: Hey!
Aww, thank you Leisha! I totally looked at your profile to find your name. Haha!
Yes, it's such a comfort to find people of all ages here. It's surprising -- no one is put down at all for their age, and it seems so tranquil. Have I found paradise?
I'll probably be posting some art soon, if I get to scanning stuff or simply putting it up.
I'm sure I'll be seeing you around. =]
Thanks again Leisha!

Re: Hey!
Role-play, Fantasy, Artwork... I like you already!! xD
There's lots to do an see around here, and there are tons of role-plays of all sorts. ^^
Actually, if you're interested in super-deep fantasy settings with lots of possibilities and plenty of blank spaces on the map, please check out Sephiris: The Price of Peace, in the Advanced section. Let me know if it catches your fancy.
Or, if you prefer, I'd love to do a one-on-one with you sometime.
Welcome to the FOG, Skye!
You've definitely come to the right place.

Re: Hey!
Thanks for such a warm welcome, Michael. I really appreciate it.
I've really found a lot that I can do, I just have to break out of some shy habits. xD
I'd love to check out that RP you mentioned. Although I do prefer one-on-ones, I'll certainly look at the group RPs around here.

Re: Hey!
Welcome to FoG! I know what you mean when you say shy habits. I used to be the kid that never said anything in front of more than 2 people. In order to change that you just have to use a bit of self discipline and tell yourself 'say at least one thing before the end of class' or at least that is what I do at college. It has helped me out a lot. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
As for artwork and things of that nature this site has a pretty cool area for that. I haven't checked it out much myself but that's because it isn't really my thing. We do have lots of high quality RPs here so don't be afraid to get involved with one of them. Everyone is pretty cool around here.
You must have a lot of free time if you keep digging through everyone's profile.

Re: Hey!
Now that Kalon has started the shameless plugging for attention, I shall continue the trend! Mwuhahahaha... ha? Anyway, I am advertising for Darker City Streets if you like vampire-ish stuff in a modern day setting. Twilight @#$% need not apply. Sparkly vampires... If you like wow, check the casual interest checks, should be right up there. I will get it together eventually. Also, monster hunting with magic and tech in a modern day world will have a story up in the advanced interest checks today or tomorrow, hopefully...
Welcome.

Re: Hey!
Welcome to FoG, Skye. It's nice to see another interesting person join the board.
In all honesty, I have only read something by two of the authors mentioned by you, and it wasn't a lot that I've read. I've read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien, but I've only ever read Thief of Always by Clive Barker. I should invest in reading more of Barker's works.
I believe you'll fit in just fine here.
I hope you enjoy your stay.
