HI!!!
Hi guys! My names Edemir and the only RP experience I really have is from Gaiaonline. My profile was hacked and I decided to try something new and meet people that are hopefully a little more serious about RP's. Though I've been writing for fun for years I could definatly use some work on my syntax but in all I'm pretty confident in my abilities. I'm definatly a newb when it comes to this site. So when I create my character do I use him or her for every thing? Not really sure how this site works could anyone give me some pointer about how I should go about getting started?
Thanks Guys,

Re: HI!!!
As far as I know we use one character per RP unless the GM says you can have more. You don't use the same one for all of them because the rules are different for each RP. I am sure one of the mods can give you a more detailed description based on the rules but that has been my experience around FoG. Anyway, welcome to FoG! If you are serious about RPs then you have come to the right place. I am sure you will fit right in here.

Re: HI!!!
I'm also pretty sure you don't use one character for every RP...after all, if you make a character based in the future, as in with guns and all, you couldn't really use them in a feudal setting or the like.
Anyways, welcome to FOG, where people type a lot.

Welcome to FoG, Edemir.
Though my beginnings were never on GaiaOnline, I do have an account there, but it's mostly for sentimental reasons because I met my current lover there.
Anyway, I'm sure a lot of people here would be willing to aid in your improvement. ((One such improvement could be that the word is spelled "definitely" and not "definately." I made the same spelling mistake all the time until a couple of years ago, but someone helped me to remember the proper spelling by informing me that the root word of "definitely" is "finite." I hope that will help you, too.))
I'm not an administrator or a moderator, but I believe I have a healthy knowledge of the way this forum works. When you find a role play that you find interesting, you create a character for that game. Basically, you create a character to fit with that game. I'm pretty sure that you would be allowed to use modified versions of that one character for other games that you may want to play on here, but for the most part, you would create a different character for each game you join.
If you want to be able to keep track of those characters, you may create one thread in which you would list them in the Archives. If you want an example of a character archive, mine is here.
I hope that helps you. If you have any other questions, you can ask the admins, the mods, or someone else who you think would know.

Re: HI!!!
Some role-play sites have a single character for all role-plays. Since our role-plays are so diverse, this would be virtually impossible.
"Recycling" characters, however, (assuming I'm using the term correctly) is fine. What you do is take a character you've made already, and then you tailor them to whatever setting for the role-play you want to join.
Recycling characters has its advantages and disadvantages.
On the plus side, you already know that character, which will likely improve some of how you role-play them.
On the minus side, your old character may not fit well into the new setting. Many times it is best to start with the building blocks given to you in that RP and make an entirely new character.
It's case-by-case, I would say. It depends on the RP setting, and it depends on the character, and it depends on the host and the rest of the players involved.
As for syntax, I usually recommend that people start off mastering punctuation and parallel structure. The main thing to worry about in punctuation is comma use--things like compound sentences, appositives, and lists, for example. Parallel structure is making sure things agree with one another by using similar wording for things that relate. For example, "Kalon likes drawing pictures, writing posts, and to have good grammar," would not be parallel. You could change this to, "Kalon likes drawing pictures, writing posts, and having good grammar."
Anyway I wasn't trying to give a huge lecture there. I or several others would be more than happy, I'm sure, to coach you if you have any questions about grammar.
As Kathryn pointed out, one thing to watch out for are little words that are misspelled or are interchanged with homophones. Things like "rain," "rein," and "reign," or "knock" and "nock," or "definately" "definitely."
If I were to suggest anything specific for you to start with, I'd probably say comma use.
Oh! and: Welcome to the FOG!
(I hope I didn't scare you away. )

Re: HI!!!
Thanks you guys have been a great help! WoW I can't believe I made such a silly mistake That was a great way to teach me how to avoid it next time. I actually love to change up characters all the time so I'm glad I won't have to recycle the same character over and over again! That would be boring! (Though I have found myself recycling an evil character named Ichi, but only because he is sooo much fun ) I will be looking through the archives and the site in general to get a better understanding of how the site works. It's exciting to be able to hear from people who know wha they are talking about and I feel this just may help me to become a better writer. Nice meeting you all I look foward to RPing with you VERY soon. Until that time *POOF* I am gone.

Re: HI!!!
Welcome.
Really, the only character that is universal (and I mean that very loosely) is the one for the Caligo section. Perhaps that is where you had been given that impression, what with the "Caligo Character Sheet" portion stapled directly to your post profile. Even then, you are probably not going to be required to use the same character that you made in your profile.
