That is a tough one, though I’m going to have to say it was back in late months of 2006 on a small forum called Megaton. I don’t think it is even up anymore, though I could be wrong…. Anyway, it was a certain story there where it was the first time I had ever written with two specific people. Actually, it was the first time any of us had ever written with those involved (only three of us). Amusingly the thread started had seen things I had talked about with people on the forum elsewhere and thought I was one of those people he wouldn’t get along with, yet now we’re really good friends. ~chuckles~

So, what happened was the story went very well and a few weeks after it finished I started up my own forum that would be centered around a world of my own creation. Invited both the guys along and it turned out they were the only two of about four who showed up that were active. As ‘fate’ would have it, if you will and believe in such a thing (my believe in it is a skeptical one), we started writing a saga driven by the same guy who started the story on Megaton and in around March of 2007 I shut the forum off to any outside influence. To this day the three of us write on that forum and are working on a revision of the original saga as well as a revision of the first story back on Megaton that started it all. The hope is that one day we’ll have them all finished and edited (by ourselves) and get the entire ‘series’ published.

It would just seem wrong to say that that isn’t my best role-playing experience. Unless of course we’re talking about old school role-playing in which I have numerous funny D&D stories.

Easy. I was playing Chaosium's Call of C'thulhu, and we had come across the titular dreaded horror. Keeper says, "Everybody roll for sanity damage."

Everybody, one by one, goes horrible insane from seeing C'thulhu in the flesh. Then it's my turn. I roll my sanity check, and fail. Time to roll sanity damage.

It's a one. I'm not even kidding. Biggest, nastiest, scariest thing in creation, no way to escape, my friends are all running around gibbering like the madmen they have become, and I'm barely affected. The Keeper is stunned. The players are stunned. I am laughing with glee.

The Keeper, regaining his composure, asks, "Alright, well, Dread C'thulhu stands ominously before you. What do you do?"

"I thought he'd be taller. I flip him off."

For me,
Though I worry this will come across perhaps as somewhat arrogant, my favourite RP I have ever partaken in was one of my own.

I ran it about this time last year, on roliana.com and it was loosely based on the concept of the TV show heroes, in that, it was about people with super-powers living in NYC.

I loved it, the RP was fairly popular, the first I ever ran and I had a really enthusiastic bunch of players (minus one regular troll who enjoyed chucking the occasional golden apple into the works). I managed to get the RP to a partial end (the end of the 1st chapter as such) and am thinking of re-starting it soon for season 2.5 or 3.

I just remember laughing during parts of it, savouring moments were I actually felt what I was writing, the tension of the more violent scenes (people being ripped apart, shattered to pieces, shot, used as human puppets - literally etc...) and the relish of the challenge of working in an almost chess-match like manner to reach a conclusion even I as the "game-master" could not have predicted totally.

Ah, my best RPing experience is one I am still involved in. Its a fantasy RP centering originally around eight characters. Four RPers with two characters each. The chracters were two sets of elite warriors belong to two warring nations. Although this quickly changed. The GM and the plot are INCREDIBLE. Its like a novel. We've gotten so far and its lasted so long. Each character is interconnected in strange and some coincidental ways. Everything has a purpose and the backstory is so fleshed out. We have a bestiary, myths and legends, other things. Its simply amazing. I don't know how else to describe it.

Hmm, I'm kind of caught between two in this matter.

Firstly, was about 4 months or so ago. I was in a new rp on my old site (it shut down a few weeks ago) and I designed this absolutely awesome character. I thought she was awesome, and so did the others on the site.

In the opening post, I killed her off.

I'm not saying that I didn't like her, it was planned right from the beginning that she would die. But it was empowering. It was the first time I willingly killed off a character of mine, and I felt so good about myself over getting through that barrier.

The second time would be at least a year ago. It was on the same forum, but the quality of the rp was far below the first one I spoke of. It was a sequel to the original rp, and my character--a headstrong, determined blind girl--fell into a love-hate relationship with a chauvinist (sp?), military guy. It was the most unlikely relationship in the entire RP, but it worked so well. They clashed, but still fit.

I wish that rp was still alive. I still want to see how it would have turned out.

I am still yet to experience an RP that I could say: "touched my heart" so to speak. But there one one RP whereby I had created such a good character model, including his appearance, attitude and mannerisms. That I was reluctant to let go. Even though this RP by traditional standards was rather casual and very average, it was one that I felt I could make use of in due course since the plot was devised well. But I have to say, according to what i have seen on these forums I am very excited to RP with you, if that chance is given me.

My best role-playing experience is a role-play I started with my wife, Ryona. It started out as a simple role-play, a romance/fantasy story to help me with the...emotional aspects of writing...an area I lack greatly. But it grew into so much more, and if I ever get off my lazy butt and continue on with my part of it, we will soon edit the whole thing and make a trilogy out of it (novels...not role-plays). It is the most successful role-play I've ever been in because it won't end until we decide to give up on it (and I haven't, Ryona... I promise). There are no outsiders that can just disappear and ruin the story. And what we have come up with so far is really rather amazing, with Dragons, and (were-)wolves, and necromancers, and mages and dragon riders, and other stuff. Quite fun!

The role play Silv discusses is also my favorite role play. I've longed to start up a role play comparible to it, but for some reason I haven't been able to.

I've got a few, actually... Each one touched me in a different way that I'll never forget. As long as there will be words, there will be stories. And as long as there will be stories, I will share each one and remember each one I've had the honor of experiencing. I hope you don't mind that currently three are sharing the top of my "favorite" lists... I don't know if I could pick from my first one, my weirdest one, and the one fight scene that still leaves me shaking just thinking about writing it.

My first one ever, which had a pair of main characters based on myself and my friend... my first RPing partner and a close friend who I've grown distant from over time. My first in-character romance with a character who I named my favorite cat after when he was born. It was a psychotic mess of fun, our original characters and their split personalities with Yu-Gi-Oh spawned monsters, Stargate world travel, Atlantis (I actually made the first Stargate: Atlantis through that before they ever made that fail of a spin off...), Lord of the Rings, and who knows what else...

We would spend hours laughing about all of the random crap that would happen... such as one of my bad-ass characters developing a hatred of books because book shelves used to fall on him. And what would happen if a Goa'uld got on a sugar-high. It was not pretty. The whole thing sort of ended when my character ended up ascending to God-hood, somehow... but the whole thing lasted over a year, just between the two of us...

Another was my very first World of Warcraft character. I must have ICly ended up breaking so many pieces of Lore just from interracting with other people. But I don't regret a moment of it. My rogue learned how to ressurect people... her right hand got rotted from a mutated strain of the plague she got from her best friend... who fell in love with her, but his player got bored and went back to his PvP server... One of her uncles is a half-vampire, and she ended her story marrying a vampire... but not after training under the Defias, making amends with her violent split persona, being adopted by an immortal necromancer... being a pirate... working as a "speaker of Elune"... she was so messed up but everyone loved her, for some reason... even the "bad" people. Probably because there was no such thing as bad to her by that point in time. As long as it didn't hurt her friends, it just was, so she treated everyone equally. Mmm...

My last favorite one was also in WoW, a combat scene. We didn't roll the dice or anything like they usually do. Both myself and that player hated it. We just traded blows, using detail so vivid that the on-lookers were honestly... shocked and talking about that one fight for months after the fact. It ended with my Death Knight almost uhm... dying? well his rogue almost ripped her head off. If she had been alive to begin with she would have died without question. I'm honestly shaking just remembering it, actually...
