Maybe not quite a rookie... heh heh.
Hello all, nice to meet some (hopefully!) friendly faces. My identities across the internet have been markedcards00, The Marked One, Three of Spades, Delta318, Marked, Hurricane, and Purge, depending on the site's context and my mood at the time. You're welcome to call me any of them, though I respond most readily to Marked. I've been involved in the mental sport of forum- and IM-based roleplaying since 2005 or so, and since then have carved a little niche for myself in the world of zombie-apocalypse-themed boards. I'm fairly big on all things dystopian and cyberpunk, but I'm also fond of medieval settings of varying degrees of realism, futuristic sci-fi, and horror of all sorts, though I'll give anything a shot once or twice. Based on the settings I normally work in, most of my characters follow a general "bounty hunter" or "lone vigilante" feel, and most suffer from a fairly heavy case of Frank Castle syndrome. You'll see what I mean.
As for the "real" me, I'm a union-employed stagehand working in the St. Louis, MO area with dreams of being a game designer and moving to a semi-isolated part of Norway, where I will hopefully be able to publish some novels that tie into a game (and, hopefully, a film) concept that's been swirling in my head almost as long as I've been roleplaying. Hopefully, I'll be able to get my hands on a 1968 Pontiac GTO before the move, so I can take it with me- but hoping for one of those beauties to come rolling my way is probably like expecting diamonds from a sandstorm. I'm willing to talk music with just about anyone, and while you might not like my favorite sort of music- 80's thrash and horror-EBM like Tactical Sekt- I don't consider myself to be too limited in taste, so feel free to share anything that you like.
Please note, I am an insomniac, prone to very strange posting times, as well as some scatterbrained tendencies when it comes to keeping threads up-to-date... even if they're of my own creation. You can always count on me to be irregular, but I'm working to fix that.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! I'm a pretty open person about most subjects, and even though my tastes may make me seem kind of "prickly," I can assure you- I love talking to people.

Welcome to FOG! I assure you, you are not the only insomniac here and no doubt you will run into another very soon
I applaud your dreams, I always envy people with awesome dreams that they work on achieving...I'm one of those people that is about to get a degree and still doesn't know what the hell she's doing with her life -yikes!!!-
When you get to Norway I must ask you to go to the Munch Museum and take pictures (if they allow it...) for me. I doubt I'll ever get out of Cali to do it myself ^_^
I look forward to seeing you around!

Thanks kindly for the welcome, guys. If (and when!) I do manage to get to Norway, I'll be sure to take pictures for you, Ryona. Figuring out how to send them to you may be a little more difficult, but I'll work it out somehow!

Interesting and Literate.
I like you already. ^^

Does your zoo there have a hippopotamus? If my friend gets married, I'm taking her to a zoo to see her very first live hippo for her bachelorette party. They're her favorite animals, so she'd be more than psyched for it. ^^_^^ ((We're not into the whole cliché stripper deal.))
Anyway, you are an interesting fellow, and I'll enjoy seeing more of you.
Like you, I am an insomniac, but I take Seroquel to put me to sleep and to keep me to sleep- my two big issues when I try to sleep naturally.
I believe Sighlent is also an insomniac, so there you go. ^^_^^
Enjoy your stay.

Re: Maybe not quite a rookie... heh heh.
Like others have said, you certainly do seem interesting. I'm not sure here, but insomnia is being unable to fall asleep, right?
Welcome to FOG, in any case. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Re: Maybe not quite a rookie... heh heh.
I'm glad to have been received so well here; it's quite encouraging to be welcomed so readily by writers of the calibre this site is home to Insomnia is, indeed, the inability to fall asleep, and can stem from a number of sources- in my case, though, it's due to an overactive mind that simply refuses to shut down until it's run itself ragged. Bah! Heh heh.
Re: Maybe not quite a rookie... heh heh.
Actually looking over this thread it is surprising how many here are insomniacs. I simply don't sleep for more then about 10 minutes at a time. I go to sleep have extremely vivid dreams then wake up and do the same thing again all night. I in the morning don't feel any better than the night before. Then after a few weeks of this I crash and end up sleeping like a rock for a night and being almost unable to wake up or be woken up for almost a day.
It is not any fun at all and my system does not react to sleeping pills. Instead of putting me to sleep they make more more energetic.

Huh...interesting. I think I have minor insomnia, at the least, since it can take me a couple of hours to fall asleep.
Re: Maybe not quite a rookie... heh heh.
Unmedicated, it takes me several hours to fall asleep, and I have an impossible time staying asleep. I wake up every half an hour basically... The Seroquel helps with both of those issues.

It's like a competition to see who has more sleep related problems. :brains:

Re: Maybe not quite a rookie... heh heh.
Now now, folks, let's not get worked up just because we're tired- and thus a little cranky! To answer your question from earlier, Kathryn- I honestly do not know if our zoo has a hippopotamus. I haven't been to the zoo since a school field trip some seven years ago- truth be told, I deal poorly with crowds and prefer to spend my time in parks and the genuine wilderness (or happily bunkered down with all the comforts of modern civilization) than I do in high-traffic areas such as zoos or sports arenas (though I can suppress this uneasiness in the interest of movies and concerts, as I'm something of a music junkie and I love films).
Another thing you'll learn about me- I write very long sentences sometimes. I also overuse parentheses, commas, and elipses. My most unfortunate tendency of all, however, is the rambling mess that my posts turn into when I become particularly tired

Re: Maybe not quite a rookie... heh heh.
Aww. Thanks for trying to answer my question. I just know that I've heard your zoo has one, and it's the closest zoo to us rumored to have a hippo because we live in Southeast Iowa.
I'd also like to say that I wasn't worked up. I was just stating a fact about myself. ^o_~^
Don't worry about rambling. I ramble a lot, too. I used to overuse commas and such all the time, but I've learned a few rules that have aided me quite well. I like to think I'm a better writer for having taken a grammar class in high school. =3

Tis all good. For us all. Sleeplessness is part of life. Besides I have had a 2 sentence post that took up two paragraphs worth of lines.
Blame my english teacher and her obsession with periodic sentences.

That is a bit excessive. Perhaps you'll find other ways to create sentences that aren't atrociously long but also remain interesting and flowy.

Oh. I don't do that anymore. I did it once to annoy the teacher who told me to use it all the time. Her face was funny when she read it. The best part is she couldn't even down grade it because she had been harping at me to do it in the first place.
