Triarch, A History

The initiates filed inside the classroom and took their seats. Each of them were prepared for another day of boring lectures and wasted time. It seemed that their whole experience on the base, so far, had been boring as well. They all looked exactly the same; short-cut hair and dressed in blue and gold jumpsuits with a single silver stripe on each shoulder. It seemed that Triarch loved the idea of uniform so much that they tried to cover up all personality entirely.

The class waited for what seemed like fifteen minutes. Their instructor had not yet arrived. This was typical and they were used to it. Much like other world military bodies the whole "thing" to do was to "hurry up and wait". Finally, their instructor showed. He marched in the doorway, and as he did so, the initiates stood up and straight and saluted.

The instructor marched behind the long metalic desk at the front of the room and placed a breifcase directly on top of it. He sat down in the chair and crossed his right leg over his left, balancing the ankle of his boot on his knee. After folding his hands behind his head he said, "At ease, ladies and gentlemen. Take your seats."

The initiates sat down and prepared to listen. Their instructor opened his breifcase and revealed a thick binder, filled from cover to cover with paper. He neatly placed the binder in front of him and opened it. He flipped over a few pages and then stopped to look at the class. Finally, he said, "How much do you inits know Triarch?"

The group glanced from one to another with confused expressions before their instructor eventually said, "Come on now; anyone. Don't everyone speak at once."

One initiate raised his hand and the instructor acknowledged him. "Quite a bit, Tera Captain."

"Oh really?" the instructor asked, rhetorically. "Well, let me tell you guys somethin'.... Ya'll know shit. Which is why, starting today, you will each be instructed on the fundamentals of Triarch. By the end of your training you will be able to tell me about Triarch history, Triarch ranks, Triarch weaponry, Triarch technology, Triarch meds, Triarch officials, Triarch politics, Triarch leaders, and even about Triarch's signature...the Avatars."

The initiates looked at each other again, knowing full-well that they were in for another boring ride.

"First thing is first," Tera Captain Rynolds said, "Triarch 101, the birth of a new power."

Tera Captain Rynolds reached for the lower left drawer of his desk. Pulling it open and reaching inside, he found and took out several bound packets. He got up from his desk and walked about the room, slapping a packet down in front of each initiative. He then turned to move back to the front of the room and sat down at his desk.

"I hope you guys take good notes," he said. "Feel free to write in these packets whatever you need to, cause this is going to be a long study. You'll find a pen on each desk. Please don't chew on the ends of them, the next group will need to use them after you.

"Okay," he continued, "let's get started. Looking at our first chapter we'll be going over the basics of how Triarch was founded. There will be a short quiz at the end of the chapter, so, once again, I hope you take good notes."

Chapter One - Section One
Beginnings

Triarch, the leading and neutral superpower of the world, was founded by August Constain on April 16, 1993. Operating as a commerical bank for several years, Triarch successfully gained a substantial amount of wealth. Money was not Triarch's main asset, however. The buying and selling of technological advancements was actually Triarch's primary focus. Establishing a credible market by the end of 1996, Triarch became a major player in the silicon and software industries. In 1998, Triarch shifted industrial focus to more lucrative endeavors. The weapons trades were becoming increasingly popular and easier to jump into. Triarch took advantage of this and was able to establish a foothold in the market. By 2001, Triarch had accumulated enough funds to build to support a nation.

This absurd idea soon became reality, and in 2003, Triarch began building a private military company. Using his networking and resources, Constain purchased off several research sites in Antarctica. Constain took a particular interest in the region for two reasons:

1.) It was isolated from the world; with no one entity having any territorial claim to it.
2.) Its harsh climate attracted Constain's fascination and intrigue for challenge.

By 2005, Triarch had successfully established three unified colonies on the Antarctic shelf. Epsilon (the governing colony), Barcaduh, and Thales. Each colony professed Triarch's technological superiority, by lying within extremely large, connected domes sometimes reaching nearly a half mile high. These domes, called teraspheres provided a habitable climate. Each terasphere can be anywhere from one to four miles in diameter. Wihtout constantly changing weather conditions, and only artificial wind patterns, the temperatures inside the teraspheres range from 68 to 71 degrees Fahrenheit.

In 2007, Triarch had successfully moved from banking to governing. The Triarch government is definitely a unique one. There are two systems operating together to form one complete government. The military and politics are kept separated to a point. August Constain took charge of the Triarch Initiative the military entity of the government. He appointed his close friend, Brandon Alemore as the Prime Minister, a presidential position with power over the state, though it is much similar to the ideals of United States. Much decision-making is made by the Council, a congressional committee of one body (unlike the U.S.A., where there are two bodies - a "House" and a "Senate").

The name "Triarch" soon referred to the military organization of the former company. By the end of 2007, Antarctica became the adopted name of the new nation.

August Constain lived long enough to witness the completion of his greatest challenge. On February 21, 2008; he was assassinated by Karl Brahmaur, a fanatic of anarchy. The assassination made Brahmaur Antarctica's first domestic terrorist. His body was later found in his home by federal authorities. Autopsy confirms that Brahmaur committed suicide by using a pain-free toxin, injected into the blood stream.

Constain's successor was Commander Jake Harrison; taking on the title of Supreme Commander.

"So," Tera Captain Rynolds said, "now that you know how Triarch was started, it's time to learn about politics." He smirked, "Of course, I mean, Antarctica's politics."

Chapter One - Section Two
Continued Synopsis of Antarctica

Prime Minister Alemore and Supreme Commander Harrison saw eye-to-eye. Both wanted to continue on with Constain's legacy. As Harrison continued to gather military strength, Alemore gathered the support of the colonies by opening Antarctica's borders. However, the Council did not let just anyone through. Many peoples were chosen, while others were crucially examined through quotas. Eventually the population of each colony grew and consisted of well-educated minds, and eager families ready to begin a new life.

With the growing population came more residential teraspheres. Each colony added more spheres to sustain the population growth. By the time each colony had six spheres total, Antarctica closed its borders and Council refused sanctuary to anyone unless it was a matter of national security. Triarch, which is by now the military branch in its entirety, patrolled the Antarctican coastline vigorously. Much of the guarding effort was put towards the South American horizon; where several craft a day are turned around and denied entry into Antarctican waters.

Aside from immigration control, Prime Minister Alemore was also focusing on establishing Antarctica's economy. Using the same tactics that Constain used with Triarch was merely a bank, Alemore opened up several opportunities of trade with the rest of the world. In exchange for importing foods that could not be grown in the colony crop houses, Alemore would lend financial aide during the worldwide economic downturn. This helped establish an economy long enough for research to take off and provide advanced crop houses, structures with an independent atmosphere aside from the teraspheres, providing unique climates to several crop species - both plant and animal.

When Antarctica's economy was ready to become fully independent, Alemore severed all ties with the rest of the world, ushering in a short era of neutrality.

=========

"You know what's interesting?" Rynolds said, this time being rhetorical. "The whole reason why Prime Minister Alemore had Antarctica become neutral, was so that he could buy Harrison time to construct the Sentinels."

An initiate raised his hand and the Tera Captain acknowledged him. "Sir? I was just curious; but, how many times exactly did the Supreme Commander authorize the activation of the Sentinels?"

"Well," Rynolds responded, "by the time you finish our little history lesson, son, you'll know how many times the system was activated. And, just to let you know, the first three activations are coming up in the next section."

Chapter One - Section Three
Declaration of Global War

During the short era of neutrality, Antarctica was mostly ignored by the world media. Having absolutely nothing to do with political affairs across the seas, the new nation had established for themselves a sense of peace and security. But all was not as it seemed deep within the command of Triarch. Supreme Commander Harrison and Prime Minister Alemore had been working side-by-side on the technological super weapon of the century. The Sentinel Network (or SenNet) is a network of approximately thirty satellites orbiting the earth and owned by Triarch. The satellites had been launch in secret and cloaked from foreign security measures. The satellites had been left stationary for more than a year before coming online for the first time.

The Sentinels are capable of two firing modes. The first is called an Orbital Missile Strike (or OMS), capable of launching missiles at a target when an OMSB (Orbital Missile Strike Designator) is placed. Once an OMSB is activated, friendly combatants have sixty seconds to clear a quarter mile radius impact zone. Projectiles consist of twenty HCMs (Hypersonic Cruise Missiles) carrying a pay-load of 1.5 tons.

The second fire mode of the Sentinel made it the most feared weapon on the planet (until the introduction of the Avatars in Chapter 4). Capable of harnessing the sun's solar energy and compacting its ultra-violet rays into a straight-shot, precision beam, the Sentinel became the science-fiction "ion cannon" come to life. The Ion Cannon mode can compressed the sun's deadly rays and super charge the energy. The satellites are able to harness the sun's in reserves, in order to them the capability to fire through night-time hemispheres. The initial "shot" is comprised of eight rays that circle a 1/8th mile diameter target. The rays slowly merge together into one, wrecking devastation across the entire target. The second shot reduces the remaining solar reserves of the Sentinel by unleashing a final, devastating blow with one large beam of energy; annihilating whatever is left. The beams, in both stages of the firing sequence, appear in white in hue.

After five years of neutrality, the world outside of Antarctican borders had become critically unstable. Global warming threatening the Antarctica's own survival, and terrorist threats were at an all time high since 9/11. With the politican's of the United States bringing the empire to its breaking point, Commander Harrison saw the opportunity to reawaken the world and make its leaders realize that they need to work together; or the planet itself would be doomed.

The only way to do this, however, was to force them to meet the same goal. But no country saw eye-to-eye on anything. Harrison and Alemore had arrived at a drastic measure and uncanny decision. The act they would commit would come at the cost of millions of lives, and the ushering of an all out, never-before-seen, global war. In order to get the countries to stand together on something, Antarctica would have to become the enemy everyone feared.

On March 29th, 2017, Supreme Command Jake Harrison and Prime Minister Brandon Alemore, together, authorized the movement of Sentinel platforms 15, 20, and 7 to geosynchronis orbit above Washington D.C., Beijing, and Pyongyang. Within minutes of the movement, the command center of Triarch was rumored to fall silent and await for Harrison's command to commit the greatest act of war in history.

-------------------

An initiate raised his hand after finishing the last section. Rynolds looked to him and gave him permission to speak. "So, just to clarify, the Sentinels were activated three times?"

"That's correct. Three activations of their Ion Cannon firing mode. Each of them destroyed their targets one-hundred and ten percent. I like to add the 'ten percent' to give people a realization of how bad the devistation was. You see, the Sentinels had never been tested before in order to maintain their secrecy. No one really had any idea of how bad the devistation would turn out to be. After the dust settled, the three cities were replaced by craters."

The initiates had seen hi-res photographs of the impact sites before, but just thining about still made them cringe in their seats.

"Now, before we go any further with the battle history, we need to examine the ranks and divisions of the Triarch military. So let's skip to Chapter 7 of your book."

Chapter Seven - Section One
Ranks

Triarch's military ranking system is similar to that of other countries. Enlisted and Officer ranks are kept separate, with officers having more authority over the enlisted. The ranks are as follow:

Chapter Seven - Section Two
Military Divisions

There are four divisions of the Triarch military. Each division has a particular, key role in the function of the organization. The divisions are as follow:

Tera Force
- The first and primary division of the Triarch military organization. They are the basic army, but are trained to be highly deadly in both ranged and close-quarter combat. Tera Force personnel are instructed in three different martial arts, and are able to operate any class of small arms weaponry. Tera Force is usually the first division on the battlefield, and the last off. Their weapon of choice: the SCAR 11 AR.

Avian Force
- The division that controls the skies and the seas. Avian Force personnel are trained to operate any and every Triarch water, air, and space craft. Using some of the most advanced technology available, Avian units, most of the time, are never seen on the battlefield. "The closest they get, is about a mile high", as one saying goes. Even though Avian units see little ground combat, they are just as deadly and highly trained as Tera units. Their weapon of choice: "any vehicle that makes a loud boom" (excerpt from Sergeant Major Leroy Wilkins, 14th Ariel Squadron).

Legionnaires
- Legionnaires make up the defensive backbone of the Antarctic state. Extreme discipline and self-control, combined with unyielding loyalty to the Supreme Commander, they are, quite possibly, the deadliest warrior any enemy can face. For this reason, they are kept at home, guarding special and strategic Triarch facilities. Their weapon of choice: the Krylov FA-37 AR.

Commando
- Commandos are the feared infiltrators and special forces units of Triarch. Disciplined in six martial arts and cunning stealth, they can smell the enemy's aftershave and not be seen, as a saying goes. As Legionnaires are to defense, the Commandos are to assault. Bearing witness to the shadow operations of Triarch's upper echelon, they are sworn to secrecy. Their missions are not noticed by the enemy until they're already gone. Their weapons of choice: the Turcotte Rapid (multi-attachment) SMG and the Morretti SR4 (multi-attachment) Sniper Rifle.

Now turning back to chapter two in their reading, the students were instructed to learn about the international broadcast by Supreme Commander Harrison and Triarch's first battles with the newly founded Global Security Corps.

Chapter Two - Section One
Harrison Addresses the World

Following the unprecedented attack against three major icons of the world, Supreme Commander Harrison addressed the world, live, from one of many hidden Triarch command centers. The following excerpt was taken from his address:

You call it insanity... but so do I. With the world torn apart by politics and terror, it was time for someone to take bold action. However, the noble souls that have tried to make a change were hushed by the greed of power-hungry leaders and egotistical commercial enterprises. Eventually, you - mankind - began to slowly destroy the miracles God gave you. These being life, a home, and freedom. You have taken these gifts for granted, and it is time for you to be reminded of their previous value.

You may hate me for I have done... I do not blame you. You may want to kill me for taking the lives of loved ones... I would gladly hand you the knife to do so. And you may wish for Triarch leave and never return... I pray that I am the one to lead them away into exile. But none of these things will come to pass until we have fulfilled the mission we have set out on. This is not a quest for dominance, or power. This is a quest for the betterment of mankind... no matter how twisted it may seem.

In the end; when the nations of the world become but a nation for the world... the end will justify the means. This, I promise you.

Triarch Supreme Commander, Jake Harrison
Excerpt from Harrison's Address to the World
March 30th, 2017

After the address to the world, the nations realized just how powerful and serious Triarch was. Their weapons in space presented a fear so terrifying that governments were deathly afraid to taken action on their own. During an emergency assembly of the United Nations, a proposition was called forth to unite the armed forces of the world under one central command. The proposition passed without one vote in negation, nor one abstention. Within five hours of the legislation's enactment, the governments of the world handed over control of their national armies to the newly founded Global Security Corps (GSC), headed by the Secretary General of the United Nations, English-born Alfred T. Campbell.

Campbell declared a global, united war against Antarctica and the Triarch forces. An immediate naval attack on the continent was soon underway.

Chapter Two - Section Two
The World Retaliates

Alfred Campbell, leader of the GSC and Secretary General of the U.N., knew that the use of conventional ICBMs, nuclear or not, would not solve the problem of ridding the earth of the Antarctican colonies and Triarch. For one, the GSC still had no idea of the defensive counter-measures Triarch had in place amongst the rest of their, obviously advanced, military technology. There was also the concern of the annihilation of the continent itself; causing for climate concerns and nuclear fallout in one of the most unstable regions of the planet.

Campbell knew that his best option was a naval and air assault. Using the might of the Western navies, he ordered for seven aircraft carriers, both U.S. and British, to position themselves approximately 20 miles off of the South Atlantic ice shelf of Antarctica. An air raid involving U.S. F-22 Raptor stealth bombers and an new adapted version of the British Avro Vulcan bomber, began a bombing campaign. Their target was the capital colony, Epsilon. However, they met an unexpected doom when they were intercepted by an undetected squadron of hypersonic Triarch jet craft. The GSC navy pulled back, fearing they would be targeted.

Campbell's first mission of the war ended in an uncanny defeat; due to the fact the GSC command, literally, had no idea what hit them.
