How about an "I'm Looking For..." forum?

So, the basic idea would be that this is the RPing version of the Classified Ads: "So-and-so is looking for new additions to their blah-blah-blah RP." Or, at least it would be something to that effect. I just think that it would be a much better way for the cliques (for lack of a better term) to break down. I mean, I'm just as happy to RP with Renji, Ana, PrettyUnusual or Hank as I've always been able to, but I'd also like to meet some *NEW* writers with the same interests as me so that, in the future I can be like "Hey, so-and-so, I've got an RP that might be right up your alley..."

Yeah, there's kind of a fine line between this and the Interest Checks forums. I guess the main difference between this and that, would be that with this, if you need some more people for your RP, you could post an ad for people.

I'm torn on the idea now. I'd like to hear more opinions, if anyone has any.

If I am translating this correctly this would be a forum specifically for recruiting?
We probably don't need it right now, but if you are planning on this site to continue to grow, (and if the last few weeks are any indication, that will happen.) that type of forum will really become important.
As these group RP's stretch on, players will get tired and write themselves out or (unfortunately) just quit and never be seen again, If the stories are to continue, then new characters may be needed, and having a place to specifically go to find/post these openings is a worthwile service.
...and that is my two cents + a penny for your thoughts.

I say integrate this with the Interest Check. Just blend them into one forum, so that this doesn't become cluttered like some other forums do.

A simple thread in the OOC could suffice for this idea. An advertising thread perhaps. A template is created and potential role play game masters fill it out. That form is then edited into the original post and the application post deleted to avoid clutter.

That way people can look at the post and see what role plays are up and running and see if that is what they are looking for.

I like that idea, Tempest. I think I will cook something like that up for each OOC section. That should work really well for this, I think.

However, If the first original post for the thread had a list of all the people with their forms, that thread would be pretty long, and people would have a hard time looking through it all. Perhaps, I could make just two lists in the first thread, one for people looking for role-plays, and one for people that need more people for their role-plays. Then, I can link to each individual post that follows in those lists, and probably put a date next to the link too. What do you think?

I'm actually not certain that we need this, yet. This site is small enough that most people are going to at least look at most of the roleplays that come up. At least, that's the impression I've received.

To be honest, I hope it stays somewhere around this size--roleplayerguild, for example, is just too damn big for me. I rarely do more than a cursory IntChk/OOC scan.

Yeah, I agree. That, and RolePlay Gateway are pretty large places. I mean, there are like 300 users online at once. It's just real hard to get to know people when you're just another name among so many others, and that's actually something that I've really enjoyed so far about this place, is getting to know everyone. :]

It just seems kind of...silly. I mean, if you're looking for a roleplay, there are three forums down at the bottom: GO FIND ONE. If you're looking for players, then you're probably doing something wrong.

We could use RpG's system-in-the-workings, which didn't work on a larger scale, but might work here.

One thread in which every member fills in a template where they state their RP'ing preferences (difficulty, genre, etc) which others can browse if they're looking for new people to RP with.

Could always just keep a sticky thread that has an updated list in each OOC (Casual, Advanced, One-On-One). This list will contain information about each RP that is looking as well as what it is looking for. To make things easier on the mod, you could have a simple format already available along the lines of:

DM:
RP Name:
RP Category: (Romance/Adventure/Mystery/etc)
Very Brief Description:
RP Link:
Looking for: (possibly put it in spoiler tags to reduce overall post clutter)

That way it is up the the RP's creator to prepare the ad then PM it to the specific mod who can review it and post it on the sticky thread. It will not require any additional coding, easy and convenient to maintain, puts the responsibility on the members to actively seek/advertise RPs (just making it more convenient), and it will be right at the top of the OOC sections for easy access.

May also want to put some sort of expiration date so that old ads of dead RPs don't add clutter and it will encourage the creator to keep it up to date. A week should be more than long enough for an ad.

I was actually thinking about that, about when to delete the ads. If we create a sticky with a list of ads like that, when do we delete them? Do we ask the members who posted the adds in the first place to PM the staff whenever they got what they were looking for? I don't think I'd be into that. On top of that, we'd also be getting our PM boxes filled up with the ads themselves from members.

Are people actually going to use this? That's the real question. Now, this is just in my own case, but I realized I never shared it, but I've never been a member of a board that had one of these (at least, not that I remember/know of), so I've never used one, and I got along just fine. But like I said, that's just me.

If you guys want this, there's going to be some things we'll have to work out, because I can already foresee this being a real pain to maintain.
